Hostas have been a long time favorite perennial of mine. I have been growing them for nearly 30 years. They come in so many different sizes, shapes, and colors. I am not sure how well they will do in Mississippi, but they did very well in Missouri and even thrived in Minnesota. I have planted a few varieties I bought from Lowe’s, Wal-Mart, and from eBay. My local sources are not so good, so I had to buy what I could find. I have many catalogs from very good companies and there are still more online. I have always been attracted to the HUGE varieties, but the miniatures are also sparking an interest. You know, you need to plant all the different sizes to fill in here and there…
Slugs and snails also love Hosta, so you will have to realize that before you plant. There are a few products that trap or deter these pests but I have never tried them. I don’t have much of a problem with those HUGE slimy slugs, but I do have the smaller ones as well as a few snails. They have not bothered the Hosta in my yard yet.
If you need a plant for a shady or a semi-shady spot in your yard or garden, you need you try the Hosta!
I apologize I didn’t get more pictures of all the cultivars I planted.
