I bought this plant at Lowe’s because I thought it looked really neat. Those spirally stems would really make a nice plant around the old goldfish pool!
Well, the information I found on the web indicated that they are fast growers. Mine has hardly even grown at all! It it still alive, and that’s a plus!
The tag says they have a height and spread of around 24″. They prefer moist soil and around 6 hours of direct sun per day. Some sites say they prefer light shade. One of those deals with conflicting growing information! Some sites say they can become invasive… First it has to grow! It has sent up new stems while the older ones died, so at least I still have a plant. It could be a soil problem, because the area around the fish pool is organic, but it still seems pretty sandy. Almost looks like cheap potting soil…It is nice and black, smells really good, but there is just something weird! (I know, I know… take a soil test). I have moved it twice and it still isn’t wonderfully happy! (I like that word).
They are hardy in zones 4a-10b (-30 to 35 degrees F), so they are widely adaptable in that sense.

Since you moved this plant twice – that could be the cause of not growing fast. Some plants do not like their roots to be disturbed – that could be the case.
I just bought this plant today from Lowe’s since I loved the look and am thinking of planting it in a pot since it says fast growing.
Thanks for the comment. I moved it because it just didn’t seem happy. I put it back in a pot and it is doing much better. Some plants like pots better. I have allot of work to do in the area where I want it perminantely. The plant is very curious looking and I believe you will really like it. Hope mine continues to improve.
