All Angel Trumpets make spectacular plants for the home and garden. They can be planted in the garden directly in the ground or in pots. They can be left outdoors in areas where they are winter hardy or brought inside. I would imagine if you plan on wintering them inside in pots that you should initially plant them pots as some species and varieties can become quite large and may be difficult to re-pot.
They come in many colors and sizes. They have an awesome fragrance, especially in late afternoon and evening as the blooms start to open more fully.
All Angel Trumpets, both Brugmansia and Datura, are highly toxic and can be fatal. They are used by the native people of South America in Shamanic intoxication as the plants contain tropane alkaloids scopolamine and atropine. The potency is variable and the degree of intoxication unpredictable and can be fatal. You must be careful when handling any species of Angel Trumpet, taking cuttings, handling fruit and their seed pods. They can be fatal to humans, pets and livestock. Care should also be taken to avoid eye contact as it can cause pupil dilation and unequal pupil size. Some municipalities prohibit the purchase, sale and cultivation of Angel Trumpets.
