William Guerin was born in 1838 near Limoges, France. After his military service in 1864, he rented a porcelain decorating shop in the Faubourg, Montjovis (Limoges).
He took over the porcelain workshop of Lebron and Cie around 1872. In 1877 he bought the Jouhanneaud and Dubois factory in Rue du Petit-Tour (Limoges). This company had been bought by the Utzschneider Company of Saurregemines in 1867 and ran by Leopold Dubois. This company produced a wide range of products, selling both whiteware and some decorated wares as well.
In 1903, Guerin’s sons, William and Andre joined the company. In 1911, they bought ¾ the Pouyat factory (see the page titled Jean Pouyat) and the two companies merged. They renamed the company Guerin & Cie.
In 1920-1921, the company was sold to Bawo & Dotter Ltd, owners of the Elite name. The company name was changed to Guerin Pouyat Elite and the marks from all three companies continued to be used. The factory closed in 1932 and was demolished in 1933.
SAUCER MADE BY THE WM. GUERIN & COMPANY:

Mark on the bottom of the above plate. The green mark is similar to the one used starting in the 1870's and used till around 1891. So, this plate could easily be at least 120 years old.

Dear Sirs,
I have a saucer with the green mark that was used from the 1870′s to around 1891. The only difference between the picture you show of the plate and my saucer is that the edge of my saucer is round, not scalloped.
If at all possible, wouldyou have a value.
Best Regards,
Liz Benage
Liz,
I don’t really have much to go on as far as values. You just have to do some research on similar items that have sold, perhaps on eBay. Good luck!
Hi mom, I was browsing today to see if I could locate an email for u but found this. Anyway I love u and miss u. Hope to hear from you.
Hi,
I have a plate that looks like one I’ve seen that’s Wm Guerin, but the marking on the back is different. Mine basically has 3 lines of green and it’s a little faint, so it’s hard to read, but I think it says:
WMDGCO on the top line
3 stars on the second line
FRANCE on the third line.
Could this be from Wm Guerin or if not, do you have any ideas.
Thanks!
Charlene
Charlene,
I have several websites saved on my computer (at home) that may be able to help, but I am not using that computer at the present time. I will check later and let you know. Maybe someone visiting the blog would have an idea that could help you. There is someone I could send a pictures to if you could email some I will forward them to her. Thanks for visiting the blog and best of luck!
This is a great name for a blog, and it seems a great resource. Would any of you know where I can research signatures of W. B. Guerin Limoges porcelain? I have a punch bowl with a signature I can’t quite fully make out, and I’ve tried typing into search engines various possibilities. I have a picture, but it could be J. B. Aulitta, or Aulilla. Unless the first initial is an S. Anyway, at the very least, I’d appreciate being given a reference or resource from any collectors. Thank you.
