This is a very nice plate. Notice the CICO mark is OVER another mark. I will attempt to find out information on both companies and add them both to this page. CICO apparently bought this plate from a factory in Bavaria as a blank, then decorated at their studio or factory in Germany.
This picture shows the portrait in the center of the plate. These images were either hand painted or a pattern was transferred onto the piece then painted (I think)… Correct me if I am wrong! I am sure many companies had different ways of doing it. Most wares with portraits or scenery were made as limited editions.
This picture shows the nice detail on the edge of the plate.

This picture shows the CICO (Germany)mark over the mark that this plate was made in Bavaria but decorated in Germany.
Just wanted to let you know that I have a double mark Cico Plate which is from the same line of plates that you posted on the internet.I paid $4.OO dollars for it and I like it !! I was also looking at several other pieces that you have posted, there was one of interest.A large blue bowl with gold roses and people in the center of it .No mark,it’s from Italy.I have a piece that matches that bowl. Hope this info helps.
Jean,
It’s wierd how so many people pay a fortune for porcelain and how so many can also find such great deals! When I first started research on porcelain I thought it was strange for some of the items to be double marked! Then I found out that some companies made the items and other companies would decorate them… That’s why there are two marks. I appreciate you visiting the blog and I always welcome any comments. I believe you are right…That bowl is made in Italy.
this is certainly an interesting subject. I found a picture of a plate on an antique website. It is a Schumann/Bavaria plate with flowers. I have the exact plate, but it is marked Cico. The only difference is that mine is more heavily marked with gold. Do you think the Schumann artists decorated it, or did they just make the plate? I dont find anything about the Cico company, but the Schumann factory has been around forever. The older Schumann was the founder of the Schwarzenhammer factory which opened in 1905.
Liz,
Thanks for the information! As you can see, the CICO mark is stamped over the mark of the maker of the plate. You can see the word Bavaria, and it is clearly from the plate manufacturer, and the CICO mark is stamped over it. It is quite possible, although I have no clue because I can’t clearly see the mark, that the Schumann factory made the plate and sold it to CICO. Now I have to look up the mark for Schumann to see if they had a mark with Bavaria on the bottom that matches the one on this plate.
Thanks so much for your information!
I recently bought a set of china with the CI CO markings. The other mark I found out was for the artist Lena Parbus Bavaria Germany.
Cathy,
