Suzanne collected MANY hand-painted items. She bought most of them on eBay from various artists that painted them. She thought they were “so cutesy” and she really must have gotten carried away for sure! She became acquainted with a few of the artists and bid on many of their items so they would sell for more money. Consequently, she won many of them…
I must admit, the artists are very good at their work. They painted floral designs
on any and everything they could get their hands on it seems. Cake plates, old coffee pots, radios, old tables, Pyrex servers, suitcases, serving trays, just to name a few items. There are hundreds of items to fit anyone’s taste and budget and for almost any decor. If you want to make your home look “country”, then some to the auction and take your pick! They will definitely give your home that “country cottage” appeal!
I have to take all these items to the kitchen because that’s where the best light is. I even went to the attic and brought more down.
Some people refer to these designs as “shabby chic”, but it seems that some eBay sellers are kind of reluctant to use that term. They do, however, try and use the two words in their listings, but not together. It could be because Rachel Ashwell may kind of trademarked that name.
The idea of “re-claiming” old furniture, coffee and tea pots, fabric, and just about anything else became popular starting in the 1980′s in Great Britain and then in the 1990′s in America, especially on west coast. Some people consider original shabby chic interiors a work of art in themselves.

This is one of my favorites! It has a 2-qt. Anchor Hocking bowl and a spot to place a candle to keep food warm.
The pan in the picture above is a very nice heavy cast iron server or perhaps a griddle… The next three pictures show close-ups of the great detail. This is another one of my favorites although I am not really into “cutesy” things like Suzanne was.

This is the third of the "shabby" radios. I took this radio's picture 8 times before I came up with one that wasn't blurry!
I have to add a caption to every picture or they seem to run together. Some even overlap and cover up other pictures if I don’t. It is kind of difficult to come up with something to say without sounding corny!
I still have more pictures to add that I took today (3-10-2010), but there are still some VERY nice trays in boxes that I will have to take out. There are many other misc. items that I may not take pictures of. PLUS, there are several old tables that I will try to get on… They all have something on them and I will have to unload them and take them to the kitchen… lol.
More pictures added April 8, 2010! I am adding these pictures while at the library, so I am not sure how this is going to work!

Just beautiful items! I love looking at your website and receiving updates. When did you say you are having the auction in Mississippi?
Mary,
Thanks for your comment. I think the auction will be sometime around April 10, but it isn’t definite yet. I will keep you posted, and I will also post it in the blog.
